Are you bored of a normal exercise routine? If you’re feeling adventurous, then Tough Mudder might be just the event for you.
Often billed as the toughest event on earth, Tough Mudder is designed by the Special Forces to test your all round stamina, strength, mental toughness and team work.
Based around a hard-core 10-12 mile obstacle course, these events aren’t for the faint hearted. You’ll encounter hills, mud, water, ropes, even fire and electric shocks.
But with a following of around half a million worldwide, these events clearly have a lot to offer.

Though conventional cardio may leave you fit and healthy, it doesn’t work on your overall strength. Tough Mudder is designed to test you in every way, giving a fantastic all round physical, and mental, work out.
A sense of humour is essential for completing a Tough Mudder event. When you cross the finish line, inevitably covered in mud, you’ll be greeted with a live band and a cheeky pint.
This is one event that really does have team spirit. The Tough Mudder participant must pledge that:
- I understand that Tough Mudder is not a race but a challenge.
- I put teamwork and camaraderie before my course time.
- I do not whine; kids whine.
- I help my fellow Mudders complete the course.
- I overcome all fears.
Though a certain level of fitness is required, it’s not necessary to be an uber marathon runner. Equally, you don’t need to be the incredible Hulk. Most who participate are just those looking for a fun day and a way to step up their work outs.
The first ever UK Tough Mudder event is on the 12th and 13th May , so now is the perfect time to start your preparation.
